Every time I read "Vibe Coding" a part of me dies inside.Coding influencers should have never been a thing.

This is a bit of generalization, there are some quite cool people out there too. But these entrepreneur-ish types that people just flock to and do wild stuff-- nope.

@pixel When I first read "Vibe Coding", I thought that "cat walked across my keyboard" had been superseded by "personal massage device left running on keyboard, generates humourous series of keystrokes"

@kurio it's basically a "fancy" word for coding mostly with AI and barely knowing what you are doing...just vibing.

May the so called "Vibe coders" bring my security researcher friends a lot of job opportunities.Or at least free AWS/etc-cloud resources.

@pixel I'm already using "Vibe coding" as a pejorative term. 💢

Also, another big thing: "Vibe coding" is a lie. The people that popularized this term KNOW how to code. They just "vibed" in a different field than their main one, but they still have knowledge about general logic etc.So them feeding that idea that people can just "vibe code" completely without any knowledge is wrong. It might work for a certain while, but as soon as you hit your first bug, you are stuck. Also, the LLM might break your code down the line and you won't know how to fix it.

@pixel I think it is great that more people can now make their games and other programs in a much easier way.But the terminology and the "influencers" side of all that is stupid.

@NorbertAir The problem is that this practice of coding is introducing a bunch of security issues everywhere.AI code is not security concious and a bunch of researchers already got access to entire databases of "vibe coded" applications because the people that engage in this trend often post them around on social media.Of course it's nicer to go from idea to execution quicker, people should just learn (again) to cherish the journey of learning again.

@pixel Trusting the code produced by people using "Vibe coding" for anything serious is crazy. I agree if that is the case.I was talking more about the person who wants to make a little game or application at home, it is great he can do so. As not everyone has the desire, time or capacity to learn from scratch. But more and more programs will be produced that way in the future, we must learn to be more careful about what we run. Same happens with everything AI produces. Interesting times.

@pixel I see it as AI hype/abuse by business people without proper knowledge and usageThey will sink at some point so I don't want to care, but possible security issue from the buggy app still brings nerves
