I assembled and tested the new controller for the @revisionparty tunnel LED strips today. Feels great to do some electronics tinkering again after all this time! 🥰

The controller system is a successor to the breadboard contraption we used since 2019 - see https://chaos.social/@dojoe/110089761829771465It's literally the same two micros running the same firmwares, I just finally converted that breadboard layout into a proper PCB.

I did make a small update: Instead of abusing XLR cables for the WS2812 signals I am now abusing Cat5 cables ;) I'm sending the WS2812 data through a 26LS31 differential driver on the controller board for signal fidelity. Two of the twisted pairs carry one WS2812 stream each, the other two provide VDD and GND to the controller from the strips. The tiny board at the other end of the cable has a 26LS32 to go back to single ended, and a 100 Ohm termination to match the Cat5 impedance.
