Snac2 is a simple database-less/javascript-free alternative to Mastodon:https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2It looks very nice to run your own #fediverse serverThere are some screenshots here:https://codeberg.org/voron/snac-styleIs anybody using it?#snarc2

@ploum@mamot.fr I enjoy snac, very light, and works well enough for me. There are a few inconveniences here and there, but I'm slowly patching them up on my instance, and upstreaming them when appropriate. Might want to throw https://git.freesoftwareextremist.com/bloat as a frontend to snac for a slightly more "modern" experience, but I usually just use snac plain. If you face any problems or have more questions, I may be able to help :)

I run an instance with about twenty users on it. If it weren't for snac I would not be on the fediverse at all.

@ploum I haven’t migrated my personal instance yet I run it on https://n4no.org . It’s also perfect when you just want to setup an independent bot on its own domain.

@ploum It runs on ridiculously low-end hardware, too. One of my #snac2 instances runs on a 486. :D

Right, it even runs without any issues on slow #rv64 hardware like my #visionfive2 board. If anyone is looking for compiled bins of snac for #RISCV - https://cdn.gyptazy.com/files/os/debian/snac/- https://cdn.gyptazy.com/files/os/freebsd/snac/@ltning @ploum

I'm using #snac on a #FreeBSD powered #RaspberryPi 4 along with other services of mine that I #selfhost. So far it's only me on the instance. Maybe my wife will join later, who knows...

@ltning @gyptazy This delights me in irrational ways. Especially compared to the "you want to run Mastodon? It wants 4+GB of RAM, a gazillion different processes, docker containers, and scads of disk-space", #snac2 is refreshingly svelte

Not only a million of different processes but also (hopefully maintained) libraries and dependencies. snac simply requires ssl and curl - ezyyyy@gumnos @ltning

@wasteland_rider@dont-panic.quest @ploum@mamot.fr @grunfink@comam.es but running it is generally very difficult. i have spent the last 3 days fixing bugs, instead of actually using using the software most of the time :neobot_flop_sleep:
