WHEN DID TOP GET THE MEMORY BARSSeriously, I only discovered this by mis-hitting shift-m. And there are two visual styles, too.#Linux #CLI

@richlv over 10 years ago they got frustrated with people complaining that top is old and ugly compared to htop, so they changed the default config to something fancy, with red memory/cpu bars and all, to show that you can have all those nice features if you enable them in the config.A few years later they git frustrated with people using those new defaults while still ignoring the config, so they reverted the defaults back to the old style.

@richlv@mastodon.social @wolf480pl@mstdn.io You don't have to, just toggle things and change things at runtime however you want (press 'h' for help, to find what's available), then press Shift+w, and top will write a config file for you in the correct path, thus saving your settings.
