US arms-makers are being frozen out of the European Union’s massive new #defense spending plan 🥶This will help strengthen #Europe 🇪🇺 and trustworthy allied countries like #Canada 🇨🇦 https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-freeze-us-multi-billion-defense-plan-arm-makers/

@CharmingMalcontent @dave Trump is getting what he wanted: for Europe to pay for its own defense.

@CharmingMalcontent @dave There's no such thing as "my" thread on the Fediverse, especially for those who didn't start one. And your TDS isn't our problem.@mike805 has it right, the US is much better off with Europeans buying weapons made in Europe to defend themselves, than the US buying our own and some European to defend Europeans. Current scenario, we buy and maintain most of the stuff, for example the U.K. has only twenty five working Challenger tanks out of over four hundred built, new scenario we don't spend that money. That said, there's a great deal of commonality in basic ammunition types, like small arms, tank rounds and artillery. And I'll bet we still end up defending many of the sea lanes Europe depends on, see the Houthis.

@ThatWouldBeTelling @CharmingMalcontent @dave My point was that Europe is doing what Trump wants Europe to do. They seem to think they are making some sort of powerful statement against Trump, but actually they are doing what Trump intended for them to do: paying for their own defense.

@mike805 @ThatWouldBeTelling @dave I think Europe are doing what they HAVE to do - relying on an unhinged orange buffoon is not an option

@CharmingMalcontent @mike805 @dave What's "unhinged" about "I don't like war," "I don't like paying for your welfare states," and "The US cannot ally itself with totalitarian counties?"The latter possible because they no longer bring anything to the table, compared to the Cold War where we had to hold our noses WRT to a bunch of merely authoritarian countries.Speaking of bringing anything to the table, if/when Eurabia becomes a thing, it or at least the nuclear armed parts of it, that would the U.K. and France, will become existential enemies of the US.Sure, they're deindustrializing on their own for now, but no sense in strengthening them, and I'm not sure lengthening the process helps. Especially since they're too stupid to not play nice with Trump and his team. They can suppress and worse their own nationalists, but that doesn't work against the US on many levels.See also the West's ruling trash's censorship campaign, for which they were tapped to attack US companies (although they're losing a lot of their funding for that...). Seeing as how they have almost none of their own.... Any exceptions in this domain besides Spotify??
