They now have three large outworlds and two wooden nests. This summer I plan on adding one more outworld and one more wooden nest. There are about 800 of them, but in the wild they can reach 10k or more!They are not little ants!

@futurebird I wonder if ants feel anything remotely akin to what humans feel while exploring some place that's brand new to them. Maybe their collective mind feels a sense of awe and boundless possibility even if they as individuals do not.

Connecting a tube to an existing ant nest to a new area never gets old. At first they send the oldest workers to explore and they are a little scared. Cautious... but it doesn't take long for a big colony like this to just start spilling out of the tube exploring every aspect of the space. New sand, new hiding spots, new water feeders, new cracks to poke at. As The Fundamental Law of Antkeeping Says:"If you open a container that contains ants, ants will come out of it."

I can't prove that what I see are "happy ants" but ... I kinda think this is what happy ants look like. "so much room for activities"I'm hoping to give them an outworld with some plants once I can get back out on the roof again. They tend to chew up plants, but if that's their idea of a good time I'm glad to oblige.
