I think they didnāt do any real research and are giving their game a āHollywoodā treatment (throwing all the different Asian cultural stuff under one umbrella) At least that one game, Ghost of Tsushima, did alot of research and tried to be pretty authentic to Kurosawa movies and Japanese culture. The first game featured a modern-day corporation kidnapping someone and forcing them to relive their ancestor's memories in a machine to find something that turned out to be a deus ex machina artifact. It misrepresented both the Templars and the Nizari Ismaili muslim Assassins from Syria, but it was praised as a spiritual sucessor to Prince of Persia due to its setting and parkour mechanics.
