What a landmark ruling for the Sámi people in Finland means for the protection of Indigenous rights globallyThe decision creates a shift in how we approach human rights generally—recognizing the collective nature of certain rights as opposed to mere individual entitlements. The decision also encourages us to embrace indigenous conceptions of land, beyond traditional property rights. These conceptions more readily see land as holding cultural and political significance.https://phys.org/news/2025-03-landmark-smi-people-finland-indigenous.html

@davemosk > recognizing the collective nature of certain rights as opposed to mere individual entitlementsI've heard this discussed elsewhere recently. One of Timothy Snyder's 2022 lectures talked about a reframing of rights language by Ukrainian autonomists within the USSR, in resistance to Brezhnev's assimilationist policies.@leighelse
