“How is it on the front lines up in Maine?”“oh that never happened”“thank god, but then what happened to Regina? She should have returned by now.”“Oh she’s in prison.”“what?”“clerical error. and she’s bad at mobile games, not enough levels in Dippin’ DOE for a pardon.”

@futurebird I really hate that I know what you're talking about but I'm still not 100% sure where reality stops and satire begins

@SKleefeld They thought experiments on mice with transgenic DNA was something to do with trans people. Then loudly accused their own government researchers of doing “animal testing” “for trans people.” AS If, my GOD, as if, even if they weren’t so cluelessly wrong, that would *matter*. As if any one of them ever cared about animals testing! It’s all just internet debate point scoring. Some new malicious strain of deliberate ignorance I don’t know how to describe.

@futurebird You can't fool me, this is Dilbert Stark's back of the napkin plan for his Martian government, once his rockets stop exploding!

@SKleefeld I have been trying to ignore the storm of nonsense because I understand that is the tactic: throw as much as you can at your opposition so they become paralyzed. Unable to respond. Unable to separate the absurd from the deadly. But, the abyss which takes the place of curiosity and reason displayed by so many layers of wrongness is almost impressive. It’s tempting to think they must know. But I also know that isn’t true either.

@SKleefeld I really thought that at some level every human person *liked* knowing how the world really works, liked understanding things, you know? Even if it wasn’t obvious I thought that everyone at some level wanted to know— even if only a little. I now question that notion. Maybe some people don’t think it is really possible to know things? Could that be the problem?

@futurebird Part of what's exhausting for me is not only the fire hose approach they're taking, but that EVERY headline is so bat-guano insane that you have to check the veracity of EVERY outlet EVERY time. "Is this from The Onion? Is it April 1? Did Bezos buy this paper too?"

@futurebird I don't think people really want to actually know how the world works. I think they want to know that SOMEONE knows how the world works, but it doesn't have to be them. I think this is where religion largely comes from -- it offers answers to all the questions we can only address with "I don't know" by saying that even if we don't/can't know, there is a supreme being(s) that do.

@steggy We will be lucky if everyone whose has an initial R isn’t swept up in the madness. Although that might prove difficult enough that they randomly give up on that one only to pick a new brand of nonsense.

@futurebird @SKleefeld i think the thing is, they are convinced they *know* how stuff works, and anyone who tells them they're wrong is somehow making a personal attack rather than just stating a fact.
