Well, that was quick! I wrote about about my disappointment with @mozillaofficial changes: https://mastodon.social/@BjornW/114032743031437841 Seems they were just starting 🙄 Readhttps://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/firefox-terms-of-use/Check- https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/legal/terms/firefox/- https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/firefox/#noticeConsider other Open Source apps you may use: aren't you sad that these lack ToS & Privacy legalese? My advise: move away from Mozilla. They have lost my trust.1/N#Tech #OpenSource #Mozilla #FireFox #Privacy #Surveillance #Security #CyberSecurity

Some red flags: 🚩 🚩"Mozilla grants you a personal, non-exclusive license to install and use the “Executable Code" version of the Firefox web browser, which is the ready-to-run version of Firefox from an authorized source that you can open and use right away."I wonder: For how long will Mozilla Firefox stay Open Source? It seems the ToS apply only to the executable of an authorized source. Anyone compiling their own seems out of scope of these ToS? 2/N#OpenSource #Tech #Mozilla #Firefox

🚩 You give Mozilla all rights necessary to operate Firefox, including processing data as [..] in the Firefox Privacy Notice, as well as acting on your behalf to help you navigate the internet. When you upload or input information through Firefox, you hereby grant us a nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use that information to help you navigate, experience, and interact with online content as you indicate with your use of Firefox.3/NWhy is this needed now after so many years?

🚩Every once in a while, Mozilla may decide to update these Terms. We will post the updated Terms online. We will take your continued use of Firefox as acceptance of such changes. We will post an effective date at the top of this page to make it clear when we made our most recent update. Why not use Firefox to notify changes? There's already a version check. User hostile / deceptive pattern. Very techbro 🤢 4/N #Mozilla #Firefox #OpenSource #SurveillanceCapitalism #DeceptiveDesign

🚩 Mozilla can suspend or end anyone’s access to Firefox at any time for any reason, including if Mozilla decides not to offer Firefox anymore.Does this sound like any Open Source app or organisation that you know? Or does this sound like proprietary software? It begs the question will Firefox remain Open Source? 5/N#Tech #Mozilla #Firefox #OpenSource #CyberSecurity #Privacy #SurveillanceCapitalism

🚩 Your use of Firefox must follow Mozilla’s Acceptable Use Policy, and you agree that you will not use Firefox to infringe anyone’s rights or violate any applicable laws or regulations.Sounds reasonable, but 👀 at: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/legal/acceptable-use/It raises more questions than answers. In relation to https://mastodon.social/@BjornW/114075461847412520 Why is this applicable for a local app? How will it be enforced? Are there ways to appeal a decision? Who makes the decision? 👀 https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/firefox/#bookmark-how-we-use-data 🚩Unique identifiersApparently Firefox shares unique identifiers for quite a lot of reasons which mostly fail to convince me of their need. There might be legitimate reason, but once again raises more questions than answers. E.g look at the "relevant content and advertising on Firefox New Tab" part. 😩 7/N#Privacy #Tech #OpenSource #Mozilla #Firefox

🚩Depending on your location, Mozilla derives the high level category (e.g., travel, shopping) of your search from keywords in that query, in order to understand the types and number of searches being made. We utilize privacy preserving technologies such that Mozilla only learns that someone, somewhere, performed a search relating to a particular category, without knowing who. Learn more about how we categorize searches, including how to opt out.Opt-out 🙄 Very techbro, very bigtech 🤢 8/N
