       For me, these two essays echo in interesting ways:"Ten Observations about Tokyo": https://www.persuasion.community/p/10-observations-about-tokyo (via @SteveRoth, @interfluidity)"A critical theory of (or for) America": https://josephheath.substack.com/p/a-critical-theory-of-or-for-america (via @mpjgregoire, @swart)

       @marick @SteveRoth @interfluidity @mpjgregoire @swart Thanks for this.  I like the conversation about America and its accountability sinks.#leadership #philosophy

       @ewisniowski @marick @SteveRoth @mpjgregoire @swart it’s interesting timing to read the Heath piece. the immovable object of American suspicion of executive power has finally been overcome by the irresistible force of a DGAF administration. the result is likely to be catastrophe.executive power has thick tails. you really want to pair it with institutions of good judgment that would bias towards the rightward tail.

       @interfluidity @ewisniowski @SteveRoth @mpjgregoire @swart Yes, I had the same reaction. Dropping more un-appeal-able decision-making into a society with the wrong norms (ours) will not go well. Best of luck to sane societies, but "be sane!" is not very actionable for us right now.(Child of Germans who grew up in Nazi Germany, I've lived my life with a gut-deep feeling that whole societies can go insane.)
