       @stux Russia regards Donetsk and Luhansk - the Donbas region - as its territory, stolen from it by the West...ignoring the fact that it was forcefully annexed by the old Soviet Union in the first place. This is complicated by those regions' majority ethnic Russian populations.I could go on all day about why it's complicated, but the bottom line is this: if Putin takes Donbas, then he'll be emboldened to make further incursions.Now isn't the time for nuanced geostrategic analyses.
