@graf Does he think that the libtards of the world are going to crowdfund him an army to fix the shitshow he's created? He was in a bad situation under Biden, and now it's even worse because the party whose supporters hate him is in power, and they have to keep some kind of faith with the base on such a high-profile issue. Moreover, the giant orange guy who genuinely agrees with the base on this issue is the guy who can decide to just hand him over entirely by cutting all support, and he's known for being somewhat temperamental about the kind of behavior Zelenskyyyyyyy is exhibiting.I'm genuinely blanking on what he thinks will happen next, here.

@RandomITGuy @MCMLXVIIOTG @graf Okay, put very simply:> Around a decade ago, a pro-Russian candidate won the Ukrainian election> The U.S. did not like this, and it fomented a color revolution. There was no small amount of violence, and, eventually, a comedian who used to play a politician on TV became president. That's their current leader.> The government proceeded to engage in overt acts of terror against the Russian-leaning eastern regions. Cutting off water and infrastructure, shellings, even. > They were dehumanized in the media, to the point where regime-supporters sold food named after civilians and protestors that were burned to death, as a joke.> Russia didn't like any of this, but their government is very wary of kicking off a war. There are allegations of material aid to the increasingly beaten-down eastern regions, but conflicts essentially amount to scattered militias of old men being hunted down by one of the largest and best-funded (courtesy of American taxpayers) militaries in Europe. > Fast forward to 2020, there's talk of putting missiles in the Ukraine, and integrating it into NATO. There were treaties with Russia that forbid this, but the U.S. thinks they won't act on them. Russia, on the other hand, sees this as an existential threat - act now, or be slowly picked apart by people who will never negotiate in good faith.> A quick invasion occurs. Russian forces deploy, there's a negotiation, and then they withdraw, content that they've established they aren't a paper tiger. Shortly thereafter, the Ukraine kills its own negotiator and claims the negotiation didn't happen. The conclusion most reasonable people reach is that the decision wasn't made anywhere in Eastern Europe.> For the next several years, the Ukraine gets ground down by a better-prepared (and much larger) opponent. It is clear that this war was never to their benefit. A small (and increasingly smaller, gradually diminishing since 2021) group of deranged redditors insist that the Ukraine is winning. A more realistic, but much less sympathetic group of neocons acknowledge openly that its population is essentially being liquidated for the sake of trying to harm Russia. As a brief aside, Zelensky is fully aware that the goofy Ukranian nationalism thing that was drummed up over the years is bunk. He didn't even speak "Ukrainian" when he ran for office, nor did a pretty big chunk of the population.tl;dr: A pro-American president is elected in Canada. China stages what amounts to a coup, installs Jon Stewart as Canada's new PM, and has him use incendiary mortars on the American-sympathetic Albertans, to significant outrage in America. Stewart announces his intention to enter a military alliance with China and place nuclear missiles on the America-Canadian border. The U.S. invades to prevent this, and Stewart drafts every warm body he can find to delay the inevitable outcome. Despite a combination of military casualties and civilians fleeing the country halving Canada's population, China's domestic news sources insist that they will be taking D.C. any day now.

@AmericanChampion @MCMLXVIIOTG @graf Cool. I like this. I can understand this. So, Viktor Yanukovych, right. Unless I’m mistaken, didn’t he go ape shit on the protestors in 2014? You can’t say that was a CIA job—he was doing the whole ā€œconstitutional changeā€ BS, jailing opponents, and cracking down with violence. I mean, you can’t say that’s ā€œnot bad.ā€ The Euromaidan protests weren’t just a U.S. plot; millions of Ukrainians wanted less Russian control and more democracy. That’s why he got ousted, and I don’t blame them.Poroshenko was elected after that, but yeah, he got a shit sandwich—war in Donbas, Russian annexation of Crimea, and a divided country. I don’t think he got much ā€œU.S. helpā€ early on; he was largely on his own, trying to hold things together. The Minsk Agreements? Man, I read them—total mess. Both sides dragged their feet, and Poroshenko’s ā€œruseā€ comment makes sense if he meant buying time, but it’s not like Ukraine started the fight. Russia backed the separatists and invaded Crimea first. I get your point about U.S. dicking around diplomatically back then, but that’s not a solid reason to go ape on your neighbor, right?Your claim about the Ukrainian government doing ā€œacts of terrorā€ in Donbas—I’m pretty sure that’s off. It was a civil war, Russians vs. Ukrainians, with both sides shelling and causing civilian deaths. But I haven’t seen evidence of Ukraine targeting Russian speakers systematically or burning people alive ā€œas a joke.ā€ That sounds like propaganda. Can you point me to specific? The sites that talk about this is literally Russian propaganda, and shit akin to tin-foil-hat.Sooo, if Zelensky just let Donetsk and Luhansk go autonomous—or basically handed them to Russia—all would be good? I hear you, but afaik, no country willingly gives up its territory like that, especially after an invasion. Ukraine sees those regions as part of its sovereignty, and Russia’s demands (Crimea, DPR, LPR) would gut Ukraine’s independence. I get Russia’s security concerns about NATO, but invading doesn’t solve that—it makes Ukraine (and others) more scared and pushes them closer to the West. What do you think about that?

@graf @AmericanChampion @RandomITGuy @MCMLXVIIOTG >The memoranda, signed in Patria Hall at the Budapest Convention Center with U.S. Ambassador Donald M. Blinken amongst others in attendance,[3] prohibited Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, "except in self-defence or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations." As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.Donald M. Blinken -> Antony John Blinken >ABMT In 2021, Putin cited U.S. withdrawal among his grievances against the West: "We tried to partner with the West for many years, but the partnership was not accepted, it didn't work," often citing it as one of America's great post-Cold War sins.tl;dr ukranana has been set up for a long time, the men behind the coitans are now visibly pulling strings

@graf @MCMLXVIIOTG @AmericanChampion @RandomITGuy this skips over a lot of stuff between bullet point 1 and 2 and before point 1in this contextie the pro-American president was "elected" after a long period of political repression by america, after multiple generations of attempted genocides by america/wars where canada was invaded by america that many people were there for, and have told their families in no uncertain terms never to let america rule them.

@moth_ball @graf @MCMLXVIIOTG @RandomITGuy Microcosm of what happened later. Ukraine essentially tries to wipe out a Russian region that was given to them by the USSR as a matter of sentiment. Russian government has to choose between backing some rebels to end the controversy or getting overthrown by their own people who hate seeing their cousins shot, starved, and bombed; makes the obvious choice. It's like if Obama gave North Dakota to Canada, and they started systematically exterminating the people living there. Either Trump would take it back by force to stop this, or he'd be overthrown by someone willing to do so.

       >It's like if Obama gave North Dakota to Canada, and they started systematically exterminating the people living thereEven Canada made concessions for French-speaking Quebecers. But Ukraine was having none of that, even though the kike actor didn't speak Ukrainian. Imagine trying to erase English-speakers from North Dakota, that would never end well.
