Things have been so much better since they started congestion pricing and I can't help but think the attempts to break it are just... petty. Anyways there is a rally @3 in NYC times square. Gotta get my wingtips on and catch the bus down there.

@futurebird I always confuse congestion with constipation. Silly German me.

@futurebird If the feds are successful in stopping congestion pricing, NYC should just make that zone pedestrians only.

@DaleHagglund Not even the tamest milquetoast focus-group, stress tested scaled back MINIMAL change. Just can't leave one good thing alone no matter how tiny.

@futurebird@sauropods.oh it seems like a good way to reduce congestion and raise much needed road work funds. Just don't often see people saying they won't stand for lower taxes.

Every day the post has some goofy article about people ‘hoping the turnstiles’ in the subway but **these** people don’t want to pay to drive cars all over the city getting in everyone’s way, blocking everyone so nothing moves. Nobody talks about that! They just want free stuff! They get caught all the time with tape on their license plates trying to fool the cameras so they can sneak in and cause gridlock. I’m so sick of it. We get *one* tiny good thing and now they want to take it away.

@futurebird All Republicans do is donor maintenance. There's a special effort to reward the fossil fuel donors.Congestion pricing reduces fossil fuel use, therefore Republicans hate it.Maximizing wasteful energy use. Increasing commuting times. Thwarting high speed rail & public transit. Getting rid of charging stations. These are all examples of rewarding the fossil fuel industry for their support. The industry paid $445 million to buy such GOP policies. https://truthout.org/articles/big-oil-spent-445-million-to-influence-2024-elections/

@futurebird I’m feeling a little disoriented by the various efforts for and against different kinds of surveillance, the the camps from which they arise.

@copiesofcopies @futurebird You already registered your motor vehicle with the State, what’s an extra automatic toll going to do?

@hypolite @futurebird tell the state where I’ve been and when, without the hassle of a subpoena to a telecom company supported by probable cause.

@hypolite @futurebird your question is a bit like asking, “You already live at a known address, how is that any different from sending the government your location every hour?”

@copiesofcopies @hypolite you don’t drive your house through densely populated neighborhoods where millions of people live— to bring a personal car into a city this dense is a privilege. Put on a mask and walk if you don’t wanna be tracked.

@copiesofcopies @hypolite It's really hard for me to get worked up about tracking cars so they can pay a toll. There are already companies with similar data sets, and I don't mean the auto manufacturers. NYPD has been using them a decade. For "terrorism." They know every plate in lower manhattan. Not that they do anything productive with that information. At least with the toll data, you can log on and know exactly what data has been collected on you. (and dispute it if it is incorrect)
