I'm sure I posted this before, but I have three main computers: a desktop with a CPU from 2013 (ok, it was a beefy one at the time and it has seen upgrades) running Gentoo Linux, a MacBook Air M2 and Windows laptop from work. The Windows one is the most recent, slightly newer than the Mac, but it is by far the slowest.I have honestly no f'ing clue why people still accept sluggish, semi-stable, not fully in control computer experiences in 2025. You would think Microsoft would've fixed its shit by now, but no. Windows 10 is the least annoying one of all the versions I've run over the years, but that's not saying much really. So, if people tell me they think Linux is 'too hard', I just smile and let them be. Stockholm Syndrome is a real killer.

@collectifission I tell people that I switched to Linux when MS ended support for WinXP, on the grounds that no operating system was going to be fully satisfactory, and if I was going to have an experience I wasn't going to be entirely happy with, I'd rather not pay for the privilege.

@publius @collectifission if you want to influence someone, you need a bit of trust :) just bluntly stating Linux is superior in many ways can get you nowhere. Unfortunately, many brilliant and technical people are socially awkward. Make friendships, make connections, be a good listener :) not easy.
