       This is an even funnier way to frame AI art generation than I normally see, if you spent any length of time "commissioning" something, then you didn't make it, the person or thing you commissioned made it.

       @BrodieOnLinux Was thinking about demoscene coding (with the Revision 2025 invite being published).Groups and individuals spending weeks or even months on programming shaders, tracked music and other things into executables, especially for the size-coding (e.g. 64KB / 4KB / 256B) such that textures might not exist in the source and visuals generated in real-time when run on the computer at the compo. Tech, art and style. And even they debated whether "badapple playback on x" qualifies.

       @BrodieOnLinux yeah and when you take a photo you just pressed a button, it was all the small photodetector cells and transistors that assembled the photograph.

       @BrodieOnLinux Commission is probably the best term I've ever seen for using generative AI. You're telling it what to do, making it redo things that aren't up to spec etc, but it's the AI doing all the heavy lifting.
