Again: democracy is not just voting. Respect for fundamental human rights is essential to democracy. Don't believe me? OK, say you're in a room in a tall building with 9 others, and 6 people vote to throw you out the window. Happy with that? It was voted on, right? See what's missing?

I guess, but there's more to life than just democracy. Being a decent fucking human being is good, whether you are democratic or not! We shouldn't lump all good behavior under the umbrella of democracy. What you should say is that democracy dies without respect for fundamental human rights. The vote goes away. No more voting, no more freedom, no more democracy.As in your example, 6 people vote to throw me out the window. Presumably they vote to throw the other two dissenters out too. And now there's nothing to vote on. No more democracy.

Respect for human rights and rule of law. Elected officials can't just do whatever they want, ignoring the law, because they were elected. That's not democracy. It's authoritarian rule.
