My recruiter wanted to send me to Great Mistakes Naval Training Center up north of Chicago.In November.I laughed and walked out.When I got home the phone on the wall (that's how we used to communicate in the before time) was ringing and he "found" me a spot in San Diego.When I got to A School in Memphis you could tell the San Diego sailors because they were tan except for their foreheads where the dixie cup sat when you marched. The Chicago sailors were pale as ghosts.

I did Army ROTC in college before I dropped out and enlisted in the Navy.My brother did eight years in the Navy before crossing over to Army.So we have some unique perspectives.In the Navy we were always busy doing something because mostly you serve the machine. It might be a ship or an airplane, but you're dedicated to the machine.The Army has some of that, especially tankers, but otherwise you do people shit.
