@jvnkyard like the main big thing about vimkeys is that you can use the same scheme everywhete basically , its a standardwhy would you just change it for the sake of it idgi

@fiore bean lore: we actually started on kakoune and then moved to vim rather than the other way around. we are very qualified to argue in favour of kakoune controls and: yea they good. much more intuitive to select text before your action. writing wd is better than dw, also selecting the entire current line is x which makes the equivalent of dd xd

@fiore I don't, but I haven't used helix for longthe thing with helix is that every movement is a selection and that's supposed to help with editing large chunks of codei use emacs now tho, so i can't tell you more

@fiore @jilotta action-selection order itself just isnt intuitive and limits what you can comfortably do. vim can do stuff other ways usually involving number keys (e.g. to delete 3 words you can do d3w i think but its nice to be able to keep pressing w to grow your selection)

@coolbean @jilotta so w by itself doesnt just move the cursor , and instead youre always sort of in visual mode ?like , how does the editor tell j->move down apart from j->im gonna do a command ?

@fiore i've had a lot of trouble learning vimkeys, they always felt like they got in my wayi don't like the philosophy of an ide or emacs, i like vim's way of doing things more, but the keybinds are the biggest part of the learning curve for mehelix has its flaws, though

@fiore @jilotta actually i may be misremembering how growing by a word went, but yes you have a visual mode-like selection and thats what enables multi-cursor as well. this is why you select what you want to edit before you select the action

@fiore favorite multicursors for me are the vis ones, they do structural regexp thingy with sam syntax with the same mechanism, so editing multiple things can be made half manually with a :x/thing/ and then editing the things in normal visual or insert or with a full command :x/thing/ cmd/otherthing/ :creature:
