       Well then. Suddenly getting replies to a year-old toot is weird.Especially with no algorithm to resurface stuff. I can only assume someone did a LOT of scrolling on my profile and reposted it? That doesn’t feel creepy at all.

       @mattgrayyes not all posts from a user federate if nobody is retrieving them (e.g. a follow, or a repeat). sometimes you get one banger post that really goes out there via those mechanisms and nothing else, then another one kicks off a year later and makes it over and the user sees that post and the really old one right next to each other in their profile. then they go "hmm neat" and repeat both, innocently necroing the old post because they didn't notice the massive time gap. then come the replies.for an example my instance sees 213 of your posts. your instance says you have 1.6k. this means there are significant gaps in the history of your posts on what i see, compressing your effective "timeline" if i use mine vs. your instance's.if there was programming in the software of my instance to retroactively pull every last post everyone ever made to maintain a synchronized copy of each profile my database and network traffic would explode and it would not only DoS other instances but my own and make starting a new instance impossible (think full client bitcoin blockchain initial sync levels of pain). thus, we have what we have.

       OK it’s a funny toot that was reposted not the dull one I thought was. That makes more sense. Seen some good comments saying that some instances maybe having that as one of the more recent toots available. And others saying that full text search actually works on here too. Unlike some other platforms. I take back what I said about it immediately feeling creepy.
