Arknights writing is more dry than the average gacha. No girl in the game is for (you). Everyone is professional and good at their job. Even the tsun girl just kinda comes off as weird and not on the same wavelength as you. There are no crazy cute girls, but without a dere component at all, some girls like Surtr are just NOTHING but "bitch" and that's it. You find character traits very differently here, like Tuye's files saying essentially that the guys who have to go to medical at Rhodes Island know that if Tuye makes fun of you and pulls a prank on you, you're in. She likes you, you got the least deranged member of medical at your back. And the letter from her old coworkers saying they were lost and starving in the sandstorm until she finds them, says "I cannot believe you idiots cannot do a thing without me" as she literally saves their lives (And when she is transferred out weeks later they realized she got infected bailing them out.). Asbestos as another example basically just gives you her whole schtick in a few lines (Loner, tomboy, likes exploring alone, expects to die alone, and is too nice to be convincing that she wants you guys to leave her alone for any reason other than the dying alone won't cause any trouble.)The writers are full of themselves in this regard, with both the positives and the negatives.

@SuperSnekFriend The beginning of Arknights is kinda shit and it seems like the writers weren't sure what they were making until a few chapters in. As to point 3: The game isn't sure what it wants to be. You can have totally lighthearted events like the last two, the Adele and Sargon one but then have a "super serious" main story that lacks a lot of polish in the beginning. The chemistry between Dokutah and Amiya suffers in the beginning because of this.They should really try adapting some of the goofy side stories tbh.

@wgiwf @SuperSnekFriend EFFORTPOST, 'ERE WE GO: Part of it is that the story was initially supposed to be how people with magic rock cancer were treated like lepers, but a lot of Rhode Island's people are Infected, and completely normal from most perspectives given. So the abhorrent treatment of the rock-lepers comes across as absurd. The only apparent means of transmission are blood or direct contact with the magic rocks, both of which are easily mitigated as people are concerned.The magic rocks are mined as used as a power source, but that is a work hazard, not people themselves.The first time in-game we are shown how ordinary infected (not the enemies that are accelerating their magic rock cancer by using magic) can be truly dangerous is in the R6 crossover, where we see that people who die from the cancer are soon after assimilated completely into magic rock, and then turns to dust, and that dust can infect other people. In other words, they are walking biohazards, but only if the cancer kills them; other causes of death don't seem to trigger it.Then the story pivots away almost entirely to broader "save humanity from itself" type storylines as our plucky heroes road-trip across every nation trying to prepare an NWO to deal with the Flood under the sea, reality warping demons in not-Finland, and the occasional god-like dragon that wakes up. At least we have the pic-related immortal beast lords to help some of the time.
