I get why people kind of enjoy the "Trump supporter deported" and "sad trump fan realizes he too shall pay tariffs and go out of business" stories. But they are just a speck in a wider sea of unspoken misery and that's mostly what it reminds me of. It's not so fun being right about all of this stuff. And I worry that this idea that "now they'll see, now they'll learn" is an illusion, you know?

@futurebird And a lot of the time, conservatives learn the worst possible lesson from these experiences, like "it's good that Elon's ending democracy, actually"

I'm not saying I'm above thinking "Maybe NOW you will LEARN!" but... they won't will they? So. It's not so great.

@futurebird Yes. So much misery and for what? On top of that, so may people are arguing the misery caused by Biden. If they're talking, Gaza, yes, he has culpability. If they are talking in the U.S. what misery? Truly, what? One of the lowest post Covid inflation rates in the world. The rest is manufactured nonsense.

@futurebird I take for granted that they'll never come around and that the USA as we knew it is dead.Anybody who's not planning on rebuilding mostly from the ground up isn't being realistic about the likely outcomes.

@futurebird No, they will usually deflect the blame to someone marginalized, no matter how irrationally.

@futurebirdThe fact that leopards are eating their faces, but the 🍊 God says it's just a cleansing scrub tells me that the "cult" is strong and embedded worse than a Ceti eel attached to the cerebral cortex of Chekov.

@futurebird it's an understandable reaction but we need, as humanity, to rise above that.

@futurebird I thought we'd all "learn" after Covid, but so many people doubled down on being horrible and made hygiene "woke." I don't have much faith that they'll do any better this time around.

@futurebird yep. We're all part of this socioeconomic blender. Even the assholes who poisoned the well and set the house on fire.

@futurebird Ultimately, authoritarians believe the whole point of leaders is to have leaders that can wreck people's lives, kill them, eat their faces (like the mythical leopard), for any reason, however trivial, or for no reason at all. To them, a leader with any kind of restraint isn't a leader; they sneer at restraint, *especially* when it protects them. When it happens to them, that's a noble sacrifice they make for the preservation of their "order".
