is anybody interested in taking over kitty.social and/or (especially) kitty.tube? pls dm. technical knowledge desired but I'd be happy to assist as needed on an ongoing basis.obviously alarming post from me but - this has me concerned, I'm not mentally or financially prepared to handle any litigation - tbh i'm a deadbeat admin, I make sure the site's accessible but barely touch it other than that, and the people here deserve more than that... I don't put any blame on our current moderation team as their time is completely voluntary, but I haven't done a very good job of ensuring we have active and coordinated moderation here.note that no immediate action here on kitty.social is pending - possible candidates would be well vetted, publicly announced and community approved by poll with a reasonable amount of advance notice - as far as I'm aware, this site is still currently in the clear from the laws that threaten to shut it down. I have no intention of shutting down the site as long as this stands, but an administrative candidate in a different legal jurisdiction without these problematic laws could help to ensure the long term future of the site - kitty.tube is probably still slated to be shut down on new years, haven't had the time to assess that, but it's extremely high risk for me to continue running

@Kitty@kitty.social I disagree. You are not a "deadbeat administrator". You're one of the better administrators on the Fediverse. Instead, you provided me and others a free platform to express freedom of speech, without hate speech, even if sometimes that speech may not have been something, you, yourself, personally, always agreed with. You took the time to make sure the site was always working, including the time to develop a script to converts the site from Sharkey to CherryPick. And you were always willing to have a friendly chit-chat or listen to one of your more vocal users, sound off on current events. And despite the fact that people offered to help pay for the site (myself, included), even when you were on a budget yourself, you continued to decline payment, and ran Kitty Dot Social out of pocket, while remaining ad-free.There are a lot of administrators running Fedi sites, that, in my opinion, should not be running Fedi sites. You're not one of them. You're exactly who you need to be, and exactly what the Fediverse needs more of. I would still be on Kitty Dot Social, right now, if it was not for the local laws in your area changing, which is no fault to your own.Do not ever think less of yourself, and never let anyone put you down. Because even in your uncertainty, here you are, once again, putting others first, trying to find a way to keep the site going.#KittyDotSocial #Kitty #Fedi #Fediverse #Misskey #CherryPick #Mastodon #SocialMedia

@linkachus17@misskey.de mainly trying to gauge interest/availability at the moment. I wouldn't be passing off control/ownership unless I could trust someone to a fairly high degree, and I was confident that they could fill my role here. Thus far, nobody's messaged me about it yet.

@Kitty Hands off is ok but I understand the concern for litigation. Any way to get it hosted in Canada? I bet if we start a running donation for upkeep KS users would chip in and generally help out. I definitely would. You've put so much work into this site and Cherry Pick is cute AF. I'm more data nerd than a good sysadmin otherwise I'd be open to helping. Keep us posted, kitty. Maybe I can ask some people at Beehaw as I get more used to them. Hang in there. You are awesome saucesome.

@nullkitty Probably, the hosting is currently with OVH and I'm pretty sure they'd have directly comparable pricing in Canada, my only concern is that I still have liability to it regardless of where it's physically hosted since it might somehow be construed that I'm "operating a business" (despite lack of money changing hands) in the US. Especially when I reside in the jurisdiction most likely to penalize me. Also to worry about is Wasabi for media files (currently exceeding 4TB) and I don't think anybody else provides anything nearly as competitive to their pricing for object storage.

@Kitty Whoa I wasn't aware of how competitive Wasabi is. Honestly no where near as bad as I would've thought. I just peeped their rates. I feel like a lot of decentralized systems in the US are all wondering about hosting strategy. I'll feel like I may have seen @greycat mention something recently. Your concerns are valid. I'm going to start asking sysad friends this week. Fingers crossed for something reasonable and good. Thank you for all you do!
