@mattblaze every study that purports to scientifically measure some kind of improvement from diversity programs is methodologically total shit when you read them. Every DEI program hedges on this and has started promoting diversity as its own value because it cannot withstand scrutiny, and they know it.> They are creating an atmosphere in which any attempt to hire, promote, or engage with anyone other than a white male will be regarded as inherently suspect. As opposed to the reverse, which has been the case legally for decades and aggressively pursued, and just not having the right percentage of black people is de facto evidence of discrimination for any company with more than like 12 people. Please save your "orwellian" crap for the process of removing this legal damocles.

@mattblaze Consider that DEI has created an environment where anyone who's not a "white male" in any position of authority in any company is now presumed to have been hired on the basis of their complexion or sexuality rather than their relevant skill sets. You can point the finger at "white people" all you like, but you'd be better off taking a look in the mirror first and foremost. Before that situation of the left's own creation can be corrected, the pendulum must necessarily swing in the other direction.

@PeterLudemann @mattblaze i don't think ppl different than me are inferior, i've worked with tons of ppl with diff backgrounds. just that dei programs don't deliver results. my own professional experience is stop discriminating against people without university degrees. this will in fact also help underserved minority groups. take people in and mentor them. I worked with a great guy multiple decades my senior who was a truck driver who got out after an accident disabled him. there were challenges but his unique path was refreshing and he's great.

@PeterLudemann hey I appreciate you extending me the benefit of the doubt, notwithstanding my server name. I am definitely speaking in good faith. In my last post I tried to explain that I don't like discrimination against people different than me. but in my original post that I found the studies about diversity resulting in tangible work benefits to be questionable. nevertheless trying to reduce unfair discrimination in the workplace is admirable.I have worked in IT and software with people from China, India, Jamaica, Mexico, never saw any reason to believe people from these countries are categorically worse than white Americans or whomever.Have a nice day.

@toiletpaper @mattblaze Yes, let's go back to the world where any white male in any position of authority in any company can once again be presumed to have been hired on the basis of their complexion or sexuality rather than their relevant skill sets.

@clacke @mattblaze Right. Because there's no competition between white people on the basis of merit... Anyway, presumed by who? Those who cry racism/sexism every time someone says "No." to them for any reason? Why should anyone care what they think. I'm all for equality of opportunity, but these entitled brats have created more overt racism/sexism than there ever was previously. Hypocrites like that deserve no sympathy.

That the new administration is opposed to "DEI" (and is quick to use it as a scapegoat for just about everything bad) is unsurprising and was expected, but the aggressiveness of today's anti-DEI purge is still jarring and disturbing. They are creating an atmosphere in which any attempt to hire, promote, or engage with anyone other than a white male will be regarded as inherently suspect. The damage - to both individuals and to our institutions - will likely be both swift and long lasting.

@mattblaze Various comments suggest that it is a deliberate revenge against Kamala Harris, Barack Obama, and any other Democrat of colour. It doesn't have to make any sense. White Supremacy doesn't make sense. White Americans are *not* being outnumbered by black and hispanic Americans. #Hysteria

I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. EVERY SINGLE TIME I've been part of a committee or decision-making body that was explicitly mandated to consider diversity as part of its process, it resulted in better, more thoughtful decisions and outcomes. EVERY TIME.Diversity yields enormous, and often unexpected, benefits. And inclusion is not a zero-sum game.

Anyway, the ferocity of this, and especially the Orwellian mandate to rat out "suspect" colleagues, is even more chilling than I expected.

@mattblaze They don't want diverse...They want homogenous. They don't want ideas which stray off-path.All their women look the same and when they didn't "have the look" they changed themselves into the look.Their guys have issues. Alcohol. Drugs. Girl issues: rapist, domestic abuse#Profiles

@mattblaze I’m also noting how aggressively they’re gunning for accessibility now that the election is over. Those memos look like someone might risk consequences for not reporting an ASL interpreter, getting a ramp instead of stairs on a building, etc.

@sun On the off-chance that you're not a troll: “DEI is not lowering the bar, it is widening the gate.” ... "DEI *raises* the bar, since you have a bigger talent pool ..." https://hachyderm.io/@aronow/113875619118750711@mattblaze

@mattblaze I think anti-inclusion and zero-sum thinking go together. "There isn't enough [stuff], so I want decisions to be made by people like me so that they will favour people like me."

@mattblaze I know at least one federal agency had to archive all of the online trainings that mention DEIA (Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, and Accessibility) by COB today. This included Reasonable Accommodations training, which is a required part of the ADA. I’m seeing a theme where they are doing more than what they claimed they’d do and I don’t like it

@mattblaze DEI also applies to accessibility for handicapped, which the Right is conveniently downplaying. I believe Veterans get consideration under that policy, another interesting omission from the discussion.

@mattblaze It's the latest distraction scapegoat for hate after "critical race theory". Fascists need to keep their supporters focused on something "other" to hate/fear , instead of the real decline in their living standards, freedoms etc.I'm all but sure The Heritage Foundation has a list and they're working down it.#USPol

@mattblaze Very true - and I blame Biden for that. It's the backlash from his policies. All extremities are wrong, including the current one, but extremity in one direction invariably leads to extremity in the opposite direction, as people get fed up and lash back. The law already forbids discriminating people based on race, gender, religion, etc. This simply had to be enforced, without the need for the DEI nonsense.Of course, the first Democrat that comes after Trump will tug to the extreme opposite of *his* extreme too. As a result of these petty revenge games, innocent and competent individuals will suffer and have their lives and careers destroyed... The whole society will suffer.Fuck all politicians...
