@sylv_a Why Signal? It's centralized and went closed-source in 2021 (See the "spam-filter @ c9a4cb2" module on https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Server). Any of the federated open-source standards-based messaging systems would be more sustainable in the long run.

@debacle @Bigou @rolle @wjmaggos @sylv_a The idea behind moving as many people as possible to another platform with "good enough" privacy and security is to create a network effect.The idea behind creating that network effect is to make it attractive for as many people as possible to be on a non-predatory platform.Stating your personal, technologically privileged preferences countering this move, is not helping.And if you aren't willing to help, please just be quiet. This isn't about you.

@avuko @Bigou @rolle @wjmaggos @sylv_aSilencing critics of Signal or Threema or other walled gardens will hopefully not work well on the fediverse.You are, of course, free to advertise whatever centralised US service you like, but esp. here on the fediverse, you have to deal with (good and bad) counter-arguments.Esp. in the current political situation, advertising US services (here: Signal in the Amazon cloud) to EU citizens such as myself is not helpful.

Signal can add/remove closed-source secret modules, cryptocurrency scams, phone-company dependencies, etc. or shut down servers whenever they want with no say from users. It's the opposite of emancipation.

@Adam @avuko @Bigou @rolle @wjmaggos @sylv_a It might surprise some, but I pretty much trust the Signal people. I believe their good intentions.But even a non-profit can be taken over by people with a lower ethical standards. And also Amazon or the US government could shutdown Signal or make it inaccessible from certain countries.PS: Good intentions at Signal are combined with ½ to ¾ M$/a for their board members. But still.
