       @deprecated_ii The cartels are kind of like the Aztecs in that they are incredibly cruel, not particularly popular, and militarily flashy but mostly ineffective against organized forces. If gangs were so powerful Bukele wouldn't have remained in office very long. The mexican cartels main strength is their connections to US finance and agencies that like all that sweet untraceable money.
