Statements about "millions of illegals voting" are just a dogwhistle for people who don't think nonwhite American's votes should count. That's the only way I can make sense of it continuing to be repeated with zero evidence. Not even a handful of examples. Nothing.Do people understand what a big number "a million" is?

@futurebird More evidence that millions of people don't know how anything works. Nada. Not the greenhouse effect, calculating a mortgage payment, that antibiotics don't kill viruses, or that it takes ~18 months of effort to become a US citizen.

@Nazani Actually if you use enough antibiotics it is verry effective at killing viruses. Afterall viruses cant propagate if the host is dead :)@futurebird

PUERTO RICANS @futurebird Republicans are using MAGA to normalize undoing the Reconstruction Amendments. within them is birth-right citizenship. so they already started with the children of military personnel born in international US military bases. no longer do they automatically get a USA passport. that memo was circulated sometime before the pandemic. then Trump let it be known he'd go after ±8M PRicans next. he also was keen to selling off the island to the highest bidder, btw.

@futurebird They don't understand what happens at polling places (or want to), so no, they probably don't. The ones who do benefit from the others being snowed. The other bit is that these folks don't use words to mean a cognitive thing, they use them to convey a feeling (usually fear) to persuade. They hyperbolize, but billions is over-the-top, "hundreds of thousands" is too many syllables and too serious so it rouses suspicion. It's mush. They mean "lots," but that sounds pansy.

@janisf Thing is. It's not even "lots" I would consider evidence of over a few thousand "problematic votes" nation wide to be a crisis. And it would be a crisis. They can't ever find anything significant.

@futurebird None if it is about actual information, though. It's the right wings recognition that how people feel steers what they believe, on a loop.Think grandma's change bowl. As soon as she forgot she pulled ten quarters over to her new special spot for the slot machines, she thinks someone's stealing *all* her money. Brains actually do work this way. When concepts are tied to core, calcified beliefs, you can't get people to rethink anything. How many doesn't matter. One is enough.
