@stux the hype around AI lets brilliant people seem like cheaters because you start to believe that nothing can be as good as or better than an "AI"

@stux This is what they are told on the internet, that’s this is fine to do. That it’s ok. That this is all they need to learn how to prompt the bot to do their work. Then tech ppl encourage educators to use GPT as well.

@stux Back in my day, people would at least pretend to do the work when they cheated.Low effort.

@stux The real lesson she’s learned is how much education is about compliance with authority.

@RobMarshall In the end the cheating was more effort then just learning 😆

@stux Maybe the teacher should have challenged the student on the actual content? See if she actually knew the material or demonstrated that AI can’t solve this gap.The issue isn’t AI here.

@stux I admire the professor for standing on principle. Too many would have buckled.

@stux But this is cheating... no the AI did not watch the videos, it scanned the videos, it did not ünderstand it" you do not get it.

@stux I am a Professor and this was a correct action on the part of the Professor, in my opinion. The whole point of higher education is to exercise your own brain, to develop your own thoughts, to write your own interpretations....not those of an assisted device. She did not learn anything except how to program a bot so that she could regurgitate what the bot gave her. This is the dumbing down of America.

@stux I saw SO MANY of these videos when I was still on instagram. They’re all ads for AI homework “helpers” for a subscription. Some of them weren’t even marked as an ad, but clearly were affiliated with the brand itself. Pretty sketchy to say the least

@stux I have another “take” on this situation, and others like it. If professors are asking questions that an AI tool can answer, they are asking the wrong questions. “After watching the video, do you have more? Or less? empathy for those who disagree with you on {insert topic}? Explain what you saw that most affected your understanding? Questions need to be personal, impactful, and self-reflective.
