I've run polls on my audience before and had similar results, in the r/ArchLinux survey, almost 80% of people say they prefer a Wayland session

@BrodieOnLinux wait how, literally everyone i talk to who uses linux for everyday tasks doesn't care for wayland until xorg gets dropped and has no downsides. i guess that just shocked me

@BrodieOnLinux I'm surprised. I had to drop Wayland a few months ago after running into issues that were just too annoying to deal with (or I didn't feel like fixing).

I try Wayland every once in a while. I tried Hyprland for three months, but went back to i3. I like Hyprland, but I think there are things fundamentally broken with the Wayland model/architecture that can never be fixed. But it's also the only way you will ever be able to get HDR.

80% of the people probably came from windows and don't know how to use X. Wayland is the negrifying of Linux. It's npc slop.

@BrodieOnLinux its funny, some people are shocked by this result, I suppose they must be Linux old timers. Speaking for myself, who started using Linux in 2021, I've never used x11 for any real amount of time, and I know several people who switched to Linux in the last few years and they all default to Wayland.

@BrodieOnLinux As a Budgie user I’m sadly still required to use X11 but if I had the choice I’d switch to Wayland instantly.

@BrodieOnLinux I still have an X11 setup I use here and there, especially to play clone hero on my laptop. My compositor enforces vsync and doesn't have the necessary extensions implemented to disengage that.

@BrodieOnLinux I don't PREFER Wayland. I just use it (and put up with some minor problems) because I know xorg is going away and I might as well prepare now.

@BrodieOnLinux For someone who uses desktop Linux just for web browsing, emails, etc., what's the difference between x11 and Wayland?
