@futurebird technically correct; lizards are squamates, and squamates plus the tuatara are lepidosaurs, one of the main branches of the reptile family tree. Dinosaurs (including birds) are archosaurs, which are the other main branch. (What about turtles, you say? well ... Probably they're closer to archosaurs than to lepidosaurs ... probably. ) But some people argue the suffix -saur actually means reptiles generally, including crocodilians and birds. *shrug*.
