Communicating with others on Mastodon at times has come to be as unpleasant as it was on Twitter. Determining whether someone is a kind of person who wants to communicate reasonably is a skill I need to get better at.

@JustTooOdd, I feel that too.The problem is that, well, lots of people here are refugees from Twitter, so they're used to weird, hateful-antagonistic Twitter-style conversations. Also, a variety of people are used to different styles of conversation. For example, I'm used to more of a forum style, where all posts are invitations to conversation. For others, it's more like Facebook, so people get weirded out when someone they don't know talks to them. And for some, it's more of a one-way comments style.

I suspect the bio is a good place to begin to determine if someone has a temperament for discussion.
