So I'm in a hotel lobby with my Pocket Reform (lol, don't ask) and the WiFi problem was just signal strength, solved. Known problem. Tl;dr will upgrade to a311d when home. Lol, had to apt get g++ and Arduino. Compiled ntvcm, and am now able to run WordStar on Pocket Reform, which I assume is everyone's true goal.

Ok my goal isn't to run WS but MAC.COM so I can write z80 test code to test the emulator project. I can feel z80 opcodes returning to the foreground.

@tomjennings That keyboard looks a little odd. How is it to type on?

@tomjennings How does the machine work for you in practice? Is it useful as a general tool, not just for playing with? I kind of want one, but I've been burned before by projects with too many issues that hobbled them in practice.

@mntmn It does look good on the screen! I will probably do some WS editing and reevaluate my memory of it.

@sigflup It's a necessarily odd layout, this machine is SMOL! and required a bit of conscious adjustment. But the actual key mechanisms are so tactilely perfection, spacing good, layout as good as I could imagine, it's fine. And my fingers are very long so my 16" desktop is a chore. (I could not find a keyboard cheatchart on the machine so I had to get wifi to find { and }, lol.)

@jannem The Pocket is the portable machine obviously so some compromises are acceptable. Mines still got the im8xwhatever CPU, and a wifi card with reception problems. Those aren't shipped anymore I think. I do have the a311d card which has improved wifi. I had performance issues with Firefox that turned out to be wifi, so the new CPU/wifi will fix that. I think it ships with this setup now. But umm CPU is upgradeable! Travelling, of all I need is general browser crap, I just use my phone. For everything else -- with 1TB I carry my whole Projects/ folder, "everything" Ive done with a computer. Still trying to work out a good multi-mschine sync system.

@jannem I'm easily compiling without limitations. I'm using sway wm. But I was never one of those zillion- giant - monitor - desk kinda people. I like a big screen but I'm fine on a small one. I use Arduino a lot, and it's very slow to manage libraries. Hopefully that will improve with the a311d. Stupid java.

@jannem For full disclosure, only a month ago I considered selling it. I have too many machines. It wasn't cheap, and I was doubting I would adapt to it for portable use, and not sure how much portable use I would use. It took a bunch of work to get the machine the way I wanted. I don't have a lot of money so that was a factor. But I decided to take it on this trip, and in town rearrangement of work flow, and it's been just great. And reminded me of what I'd set out to do (change life and work practices) and it's working out great now.

@tomjennings From how square the keyboard arrangement is, I kinda expectd it to have an Eatoin Shrdlu layout..
