Pick a Superpower:1. Instantly know the exact origin of any honey you taste.2. See and understand ant trails.3. The ability to talk to, silence, and agitate crickets and tell them apart by chirping.4. Always be aware of the nearest spider to your person.

@futurebird since I recently found out that some honey is fake (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjw0w921nzgo) honey radar

@futurebird Definitely interested in understanding ant trails!Would love to be able to map them too (although that map would probably immediately be used against ants, so not a good idea)

@futurebird I chose spicy sense. Assuming it means I can protect myself and my companions, I choose safety over fun. That may be a factor of my age and/or the current dire reality.

@futurebird @qurlyjoe That's what I'd do. If it comes with the power to talk to spiders, I could ask them politely to hide more effectively, or maybe scoot to another room - my kiddo has bugphobia, including spiders.

@futurebird To my mind:Honey radar is mainly good for identifying fraudulent honey (which is a real and serious issue).Ant trail vision would be fascinating but not otherwise useful.Spidey sense, in my environment, would be like “look up at the corner of the ceiling, in any room at any time.”For me, the ability to command crickets would be the most powerful, either to sleep better or to drive my enemies mad.

@futurebird The very last thing you'd want to have if you are arachnophobic is 4. Even if you aren't, your mind wouldn't be able to cope with your spidey sense constantly - and I mean constantly - being triggered.

@futurebird Ant trails have to be simply EVERYWHERE. This would have to be useful for various reasons in a survival scenario. Which is on my mind a heckuva lot these days! 😬

@futurebird I voted cricket speak because that’s very useful for conducting and evading covert actions. Crickets warn you when someone is coming by going quiet. On the other hand, if you could make them sing when nearby, others may not know you’re coming. I did not choose spidey sense because I actually do not want to know how many (and there are very many) spiders are close to me. Not because I don’t like spiders. I just don’t like crowds.

@Moss @futurebird my thoughts as well. I'm sure I could put the cricket power to good use somehow. Like when my coworker makes a bad joke *cue crickets*

@ShiitakeToast @futurebird > I actually do not want to know how many (and there are very many) spiders are close to me. you're in luck! item 4 above says "the nearest spider [singular]". So if there were dozens of spiders in your room but you stayed very still, you might sense only one of them.By having the sense flick from one stationary spider to the next as you move around, you could get a *lower bound* of the number of nearby spiders, but not an upper bound.

@futurebird With the cricket speech power, you can go out at night to do a stand up comedy routine, and all you'd hear are crickets, and that would be a good thing. And you'd be able to silence any crickets who are heckling you.

@futurebird Having been sent to ER with symptoms consistent with a black-widow bite, I'll take the last one.It never crossed my teenage mind that I would die, but once the venom kicked in, it felt like being hit in the back with a baseball bat, which now I can vividly imagine.
