@interfluidity US worked in coalition with Stalin to defeat Hitler. In this case, however, I"m not sure which side I want to win. Seems to me that they will lose popularity much faster under Team Oligarch than Team Ideologue.

@interfluidity the only winning move is not to play

@interfluidity Only if both of them died immediately as a result. Otherwise, they win. That’s how it works when “well-intentioned” liberals cooperate with predators.

@interfluidity If it could be accomplished in a short period of time, perhaps yes. otherwise... not sure? Also would depend on how vanquished

@interfluidity If I am known as too Machiavellian, then I'm not trusted in the future in more aligned coalitions, causing my future power is diminished. Deals with the devil have to be rare and over existential issues. Right now, I'm not sure Elon meets that level of risk, and there's a good chance he destroys himself with drugs and a future billionaire backlash.

@kentwillard I don’t think people get just how much these people are “going for it”, trying to make changes that render rule by their coalition politically irreversible. Fractures in that coalition are our main hope for anything like a decent future, but we are bad at exploiting them because on understandable moral grounds, we resist forming coalitions with the warring factions, ultimately driving them back together.
