So I had a Corsair RM650x that's flakey and is headed for e-waste, but I wondered: How smart is this thing?It's got a ton of different voltages and dynamic fan control and power-good signals and all that! How much smarts is this thing?

Answer:A PIC16P1503! That's an 8-bit microcontroller, with 128 bytes of RAM, 3.5 kilobytes of flash, and runs at 16 mhz max.

They keep the microcontroller on this little daughterboard, labeled MCU CARD on the main PCB.So presumably if they want to build a Smarter PSU they can just drop an ARM chip on here. Maybe they do, if you have one of the PSUs with RGB LEDs and such.

I'm cleaning out my office since I can't do electronics or old computer stuff anymore, and lots of it is ewaste, but I keep taking forever to toss stuff because I want to see what's inside it before I toss it, just in case it's interesting.

@foone I don't see a PMBus port on the marketing images. it's possible that this board gets reused on other PSUs that do expose PMBus and that's why they need the MCU.
