Literally all I wanted was a drama-free install and upgrade to a new laptop. Instead, it's drama all the way.

@emag I missed your original posts -- are you installing Linux on an old win laptop?

@tomjennings it's a 12th gen i7 Dell Inspiron I got in Oct 2023 to replace the 2019 MSI with a broken hinge (apparently common). It was one of 4 projects that have been languishing, made more urgent by the dying spinning rust in the MSI.

@emag Installing and configuring Linux has got so complex, when I'm done, I don't have the confidence I'd like to have that it's done reliably. There's too much feetch, far too much, solving everyone's needs on one distro. So I can't help you but I can commiserate. This helps even less, but I bought a machine from kfocus.org. they sell seamless kubuntu machines, wonderfully integrated, I've had zero issues with it. In the last decade software complexity overall is out of control.

@tomjennings this is very much a case of "this doesn't work exactly like the old one" combined with "this doesn't even work like my work one". And I even have TFM opened on another machine.I'll get there, I just don't know when.
