After close consideration we have come to the decision to block Threads.net instance wide on all related instances (mstdn.social, masto.ai, mastodon.coffee, pixey.org, gram.social)The new Meta policy goes against much we stand for and we will not allow to let it spill over to the FediverseI just checked the numbers and it seems Threads is the biggest 'loser' hereOn all instances combined we lose just under 100 followers spread across all instancesThreads will lose over 13K total

@stux Thanks, stux, fully support you. I had filtered Threads accounts and blocked the domain but this makes it more reliable. I don't want Meta harvesting my personal info or posts because a Threads account crossed the streams.It's not as if folks can't go to Threads and follow accounts there by other methods.

Some people may wonder why it's now and not before and I would like to try and explain as good as I canWe are a relative large instance in the Fediverse so that comes with a lot of responsibility in making decisions. @stux maybe only 100 followers but those of us who follow decent people on threads have now lost being able to see them. Why block those who aren't the problem? Seems short-sighted to me. Are the majority of posters on threads a problem? if not then why not individual blocks for offenders? It's like blocking everyone that lives in a "red" state, including those who don't vote that way.

@stux Unfortunately many business and companies have a small team, and they will always go where the engagement rate is highest, not what is the best platform. We had to ask #TheGreenParty to turn on federation option so that we can network with them even after a long time of asking them to do the right thing and #JoinMastodon, they have joined #bluesky. The networking effect is the biggest at play, and many more people will likely leave Mastodon for Bluesky.

@stux building consensus can be a long process, especially when there is a large group of people involved and it is a good thing the fediverse is not a hive mind. @stux some people will lose good people they follow on Threads but on other hand, it would certainly be unfair for admins and mods here on Mastodon to waste the time and energy to moderate a mountain of stuff coming from the nasty side of Threads. Just like you used to only be able to send email to another AOL account (if you recall those days!) right now people can only interact with users on the same platform e.g. Facebook. With the fediverse, you can talk between platforms e.g. from Threads to Mastodon and between different Mastodon servers (as well as other services like Flipboard, Ghost, and Pixelfeed). HTH!

They want it it to seem hard, to seem like well it’s terrible over there, but there is some good and we don’t want to lose that… that’s the trap, to make you think it’s inescapable. See it with Facebook and older folk in the US, and in so many countries with WhatsApp. Sometimes doing the right thing is painful, but I do believe, in the end, it is better for the soul.
