Ah yes, CUPS, that integral structural part of Linux where if it doesn't exist, Linux simply is unable to function and be called Linux

@BrodieOnLinux >if you activate dev modeyou go to the power menu and one of the options is "desktop mode". It's not even a special dev mode, it's a very visible reboot option.

@apropos hat's not what I mean, there's a mode that disables the immutabliness and basically lets you use it like Arch

@BrodieOnLinux ChromeOS and Android are enormously worse for Linux compatibility. On Chrome it's a dodgy containerized debug feature supported by one guy inside the company and who knows what'll happen to it or if a random update will wipe everything. On Android it's a completely unsupported userspace feature that's had to be reinvented a few times over the course of the decline of Android as security features kept breaking and limiting what was possible. In both cases the 'Linux' feels only about as good as terminal options that I had on Windows in the 1990s. You can terminal into a real server. You can even run some graphical programs. But it's nothing like SteamOS just dumping you into a slightly weird KDE setup.

@BrodieOnLinux OK, but I wouldn't count the immutableness against it being Linux. There's stuff like Fedora CoreOS out there. Even Android giving every program its own uid and having a common messaging bus is something a distro could do.

@BrodieOnLinux you can also just… install cups?the X11 thing is a legitimate criticism of SteamOS, but it’s not a legitimate criticism of the idea that it’s linux lol

@aismallard Most of the time you're not in desktop mode, the games you're running are in gamescope a Wayland compositor so it's a bit of both.

@BrodieOnLinux that moment when Arch is "ChromeOS" because CUPS isn't included (CUPS originally being created by Apple makes it even more funny somehow)

@BrodieOnLinux Ah yes X11, the least Linux thing imaginable. Especially if you build custom code for it.

@BrodieOnLinux I think not having things like cups (when you don't need them) is a good thing

@chrisisgr8 You can turn of the immutable part and just use it like Arch, it's not recommended, it'll probably break something but it's an option

@BrodieOnLinux How do you have the energy to read and interact with all profoundly annoying people and comments? Just reading two of them makes me want to jump off a bridge.

@BrodieOnLinux @macberg Brodie, I think you have an extra THICC skin by now since Linux users are some of the most annoying/nagging people online and especially in your and YouTube's comment section. And this comes from someone that is a huge Linux fan.So you have been disassociating for years now? 😁
