@CozyLife I probably used it until I was like 7 or 8, then that computer became the secondary basement computer and the new main home computer was windows 7.I do kinda miss windows 8. not because it was "good" but it was the OS of my first computer which I got when I was 13. Very nostalgic time of my life.

@givenup I have windows 11 and used openshell/explorerpatcher to make it look like windows 10. I did all of that the moment I installed it because it was basically unusable. it's ad-free now as far as I can tellbut I'd be too scared to try all that if it wasn't a fresh install, too scared of fucking shit up.

@suquili @givenup windows xp was really fun to grow up with. It was my first is that I had on a PC at the time. "Windows XP Black Edition" was my favorite. Definitely take the penguin route too if you're willing to learn something new and have greater power.

@lnx @givenup i got a new CPU and SSD almost a year ago and wanted to buy more parts to fully replace my PC, then make a new PC out of the old parts to toy around with linux, but I'm poor lol. I also lack space for a second computer. but I've wanted to, and it's something I ought to know about considering I literally studied it in school.

@slam_dancer @givenup I'm pretty quick at getting to my meme folder for speedy reaction images. I very quickly type win+E, "p" to highlight the pictures folder, enter, "m" to highlight the memes folder, enter, then ctrl+F to find whatever meme I needed.But for a few months Windows stole my ability to do that. It would just play the stupid error "ding" because it didn't understand I wanted to navigate through explorer with the keyboard. I had to click the negative space to start that process, but by that point I was already wasting too much time. Luckily I got the ability back, idk why that was happening.

@suquili @givenup The thing I hate about windows is that is all there is, UI. When something goes wrong you can't say "hey windows, i'm going to close you for a minute so I can fix my computer". On linux, your desktop is really just another program. Here's my file browser since you like hotkeys:

@slam_dancer @givenup im a hoarder. and my meme folder sorta acts as a "journal" of trends and political events as I witnessed them. so I tend to name them very verbose and if they're related i'll give them a common set of keywords.for example when nyc kikes were revealed to be building tunnels last year, I named each meme pertaining to the event "nyc jews building secret tunnels" followed by more specifics. in this case it's "nyc jews building secret tunnels happy merchant ai generated"it's a bit time consuming but i've been doing it so long it'd feel weird to stop.

@suquili @givenup it's a good habit. combined with fuzzy search, that's basically tags too. i used to do big file trees for things like pictures>memes>images>jews>jewdoingsomething.jpg but it's seems quicker to keep it in one directory and have a way to search/sort it.
