       @interfluidity @ryanlcooper I think the blame rested at the feet of millionaires is overdone. They're part of it, but "don't read the comments" predates them by a fair margin. What social media did, before them, was elevate comments over content. A lot of people stopped reading, and just started giving voice to their untutored biases and knee-jerk reactions. And I'm afraid it's not like we're going to get people to read again.

We're in a situation where Donald Trump and Elon Musk are poster boys for doing things openly under their own names.I would say they manage to do them without too much deep thought, because again that's where we are as a society.They are symptoms as much as instigators.
