@voltagex #Flatpak is a platform for third-party applications. Distro packages are meant to shape the operating system and eventually modify it to include more applications as part of it.Distro packaging shines when integrating software from different sources to actually provide added value. For the rest: platforms, just like Android and iOS apps, WebExtensions etc; this one is the approach that scales independently from the amount of software, so it will always be needed at some point.

@alxlg @voltagex Flatpak, snap and the rest are shit-wrapped crap served on slices of poo. Far, far more trouble than they are worth. It's a huge shame that so many maintainers are wasting so much time on them. #linux #tech

@kauer @alxlg @voltagex Yes but they also provide an easy (I didn't said efficient) way for beginners on linux to install tools a la windows . The main issues , imo, come from the fact that the so-called "security" of these package managers is pure bullshit steamed out the most deranged and rotten brain in the world.

@shalien @kauer @alxlg @voltagexWhy is easyer to install flatpak software if you're installing it from the same application? You search, click and install ....... Isn't that window's way enough???

@shalien @kauer @alxlg @voltagex The applications to install packages through is the same for Flatpak and the package manager in many cases. With Discover I can install an applications and choose where to install it from. No difference for beginners there.
