@evacide And it's not like there isn't a cost for coming forward. Even if the person you must identify isn't powerful or important, simply being "the kind of woman" who admits to such things is still treated like a stain on the purity and honor of the victim. When you think about it it's absurd. I was attacked. I did nothing wrong. But when I tell people that this happened. (even without threatening the precious reputations of any men) it makes *me* suspect, impure, etc.

@futurebird @evacide Yes. I remember sitting in a circle of friends 20 years ago (about 8 young adults) and someone asked if we knew anyone who had been raped or sexually assaulted. No one admitted to it, even though I know now that at least 4 of us in that circle personally had been. It is a stigma that can stick and is very difficult to face up to.
