       @gondoypu Russia isn't the U.S., and a lot of these make sense in that context. America is an explicitly White nation with no real historical nonwhite population aside from a very localized slave population that were not real citizens. The mere presence of other races is seen as ahistorical and leftist here, and freedom of speech is seen as a core principle, since it can work in a homogeneous country.Russia, on the other hand, is a multi-continent empire with any number of subpopulations that it has to manage. Historically, it chose to keep its Muslim populations Muslim so as to keep them separate and distinct from their core Slav population. It has to be run with a degree of authoritarianism, coupled with a degree of tolerance for different subpopulations, because if you lack the former you end up with a dozen different racial/religious groups at each others' throats, and if you lack the latter you end up with a neverending series of rebellions that you can't ever solve because even if you completely eliminate their cultural differences, that would result in an undesirable amount of intermixing.As for the Soviet LARPing, it's just their version of the Confederate flag. A unifying symbol for a people that were fucked over in recent decades and have had to tide themselves over from the last time they felt they were not under occupation. There's a video of the Joker guy and a Slav with a USSR flag saying "White Power" - there's no contradiction there, it just means "Slav racial flag" to them, in the same way the Chinese flag means "China racial flag" to the Chinese.

       @iska @gondoypu there's also the whole, certain territories of Russia have been Muslim for hundreds of years going back to the days of monarchist Russia, like certain areas are ethnic Chinese.  This is why I keep saying (hopefully I don't get auto-corrected) Moscow is not Russia, and Russia is not, Moscow.
