The truth of the H1B visa program. I lived it. In the early 1980s, I received degrees in computer science and mathematics. I had excellent pay in the computer programing industry. All of my friends in CS also received good jobs and excellent pay. Around 1990, employers decided to outsource computer programing (mostly to India) to save money. It was a disaster. The Indian programmers didn't understand the problems and their english skills were very poor. more--;

They then tried insourcing. They were brought in on the H1B visa program and paid them 1/3rd of the money paid to US programmers, who were then summarily fired. Many of my friends had to train the Indian programmers before being fired. Many US programmers left the industry inorder to make a decent living. The idea that we didn't have the skills then was a complete lie and it's a complete lie now. It's all about dirt cheap labor. Those are the REAL facts!! #MAGA #H1B

@UpstateVoice When a business model no longer produces profits and they start shaving the edges off with stuff like importing engineers, that's the beginning of the end.Tech is about to crash. Social networks are a sad addiction and AI isn't going to be the industry saver people think.

Maybe I'm like the guy who said that no one will use a mouse, but I think for general use, computers topped out long ago. Now companies like Microsoft just add features to keep their oem partners selling hardware by grinding previous hardware to a halt. By way of example, I installed arch with i3wm on a core 2 duo with an ssd, and it boots in less than 30 seconds, and is fine for general office use and web browsing. Try running Windows 10 on that same build. It ain't happening.

@Humpleupagus @UpstateVoice Most people use phones for everything and don't own computers at all.

I dunno about gaming. I once had to vm Windows 7 to interface an old managed switch. That's as deep into a vm of windows as I've been.

@fknretardlol @Humpleupagus @UpstateVoice @magicalthinking Unless you only play graphically snon demanding. GPU pass through is a pain in the ass and won't work half of the time - that's why dual boot is still so popular.

@magicalthinking @UpstateVoice When you have to fire up Three Mile Island to power AI, there's the sign AI won't be the industry saver.
