I'm gonna be honest with you: I hate that ZFS is available on Linux so easily these days. The folks at illumos, FreeBSD, etc, work for years and years to make cool technologies like ZFS and DTrace available everywhere, while Linux folks never make such an effort.Want to install a software? well you have to use this specific containerization technology which relies kernel internals.Want a graphical system? well it relies on an init system that's built specifically for this OS.WHY??????????

It's annoying that ZFS has some ridiculous and petty license incompatibility with Linux and as such can't be pulled directly into the kernel.

The issue is that the kernel foundation itself can't integrate ZFS directly into the kernel because the ZFS license is legally incompatible with GPL2 on petty and ridiculous technicalities. ZFS is basically BSD licensed, except not literally BSD licensed.

This means it'll always be built as a module, which is annoying because then you have to use an initrd to boot from it.
