Humans are mongrels. The idea of race purity or supremacy is such a sick joke on so many levels."While these early European humans were long seen as a species which we successfully dominated after leaving Africa, new studies show that only humans who interbred with Neanderthals went on to thrive, while other bloodlines died out. In fact, Neanderthal genes may have been crucial to our success by protecting us from new diseases we hadn't previously encountered."https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwydgyy8120o

@gerrymcgovern O what a framing! In fact, Africans do well in sub-saharan Africa without interbreeding with Neanderthals. They are humans, too.

@jk That is indeed true and they are superbly adapted to their environment over hundreds of thousands of years and more. However, those who came out of Africa to Europe faced a new environment and new diseases, so getting Neanderthal genes helped. It's nice that they came out cooperating rather than conquering and genociding, as was the previous story we were told. The idea that early humans were simply cruel killing machines is more disproved as science progresses.

@gerrymcgovern @jk Having someone's genes doesn't contradict conquering and genociding them. Especially when it's a few percent of their genes.

@gerrymcgovern So that means if somebody shouts at any of us Neanderthal, we should all say why thank you glad you noticed? 🤓

@gerrymcgovern This is not new. New is: They mixed later then know previously.
