Today I'm feeling sad that music fans growing up in the age of streaming will never get to experience the compilation album.I mean, sure, playlists and whatever. But it's not the same as having a physical record that you listen to over and over, until you know the songs in your bones. Then years later, randomly hearing any one of them has an emotional effect that's almost physical.(1/2)#CompilationAlbum #TheTrip

@strypey AFAIK record albums are selling fine. The idea of “death of XYZ medium” was just a consumerist ploy.

When I was in my late teens I had a copy of The Trip 4;https://www.discogs.com/release/442531-Various-The-Trip-4Every track on this compilation is killer IMHO, and it led me on to a bunch of albums I love to this day. REM's Monster, Dookie by Green Day, Hole's second album Live Through This, Betty by Helmet, The Holy Bible by the Manic Street Preachers, and Too High to Die by The Meat Puppets. Even ended up with a Reverend Horton Heat album, after hearing I Can't Surf on this album, but now I can't remember which one.(2/3)

Honourable mention for the two kiwi tracks that made it onto this iteration of The Trip; George by the Headless Chickens, and X by Bailterspace. Headless Chickens had already had top 40 hits in Aotearoa by that time, so I was already well familiar with them by the time I heard this album. But that Bailterspace track got me trawling the record shops for kiwi alternative rock, especially Flying Nun Stuff.(3/30

@nonlinear > AFAIK record albums are selling fineI'm aware, but I'd be pleasantly surprised if this includes compilations, outside of a niche audience.
