(1/2)@naught101 > What's your favourite book on learning, thinking, or understanding complex topics? And WHY? What's good about it?It's not a book, but ...https://donellameadows.org/dancing-with-systems/... and ...https://donellameadows.org/archives/leverage-points-places-to-intervene-in-a-system/Meadows did publish a bunch of books I haven't read, but these essays have been hugely influential on my approach to thinking about systems. Especially in helping me understand that systems are chaotic, not deterministic. They can be nudged, but never controlled.

(2/2)One way of understanding the appeal of the New World Order memeplex is as a shadow of a repressed desire to for a predictable global system that can never exist.Perhaps when some people get a glimpse of the ungovernable chaos of intertwingled world systems, they panic. First they subconsciously wish for an all powerful One World Government that can protect them from the chaos, creating a mental picture of how that might look. That picture then becomes the NWO their conscious mind fears.

This is perhaps Donnella Meadows' most essential advice for the present historical moment;“A decision-maker can’t respond to information he or she doesn’t have, can’t respond accurately to information that is inaccurate, can’t respond in a timely way to information that is late. I would guess that 99 percent of what goes wrong in systems goes wrong because of faulty or missing information.”#DonnellaMeadows #SystemsThinking #information

@strypey Yeah.. That's pretty on point. And I expect that list could be expanded a lot. Not least that decision makers can't make use of information that is not delivered in a frame that they can understand an believe. (Acknowledging that new information and existing frames of reference have multiple nonlinear feedbacks).
