I need #fashionAdvice !If you like classic looks how do you deal with The Winter Hat? As modern people, none of us is as skilled in hats as thr ancestors. Since, I tend to wear little blazers & wing tips one might think that a trilby would work (and it has an irony to it too) but that is NOT a warm hat. I need the hat because my head is cold. But I also need to be CUTE. I have fallen into conflict with the Fundamental Law of Style: “fashionability is inversely proportional to practicality”

@futurebird The only winter hats that I have ever looked good in are those Land's End ones with a head part that is sort of a short, gently tapered fleece cylinder and a rolled brim about 1-2 inches in diameter. & even then only in the few colors that my face looks good next to.

@futurebird You could try a faux fur hat like this one?

@futurebird I would try a knitted or felted cloche style. Super cute and covers the ears

@futurebird What about just a simple knit hat and that's color coordinated with whatever else you're wearing? You might need more hats for different color combos, but they'd collectively still be cheaper than a trilby.

@futurebird a driving cap or ivy cap might work. A trapper hat would certainly be warm but it might not work well for the city. A cloche might do the trick.

@futurebird I used to have a newsboy cap with ear flaps that could be flipped up. I've also seen broad brimmed hats, vaguely fedora but more feminine, with a thin scarf sewn to the interior lining of the hat. You tie the scarf under the chin to keep the ears warm and also prevent the hat from blowing off.

@futurebird Have you considered a scarf wrapped around your head, Audrey Hepburn-style? And as a bonus fashion accessory you could carry a long black cigarette holder with a candy cigarette* at the end. * Are those still a thing? I would think not.

@flaneurben This is a promising idea AND another opportunity to engage in tweed. Always a good idea.

@futurebird I have two winter hats. A crochet Frosty hat for the lead-in to Xmas, then a Russian style (fake) fur cap for the really desolate part of winter. The Frosty hat is fun, at least!January in Canada has no fun, hence the Russian cap.

@futurebird @flaneurben Good thing I read before posting, as I was about to suggest fleece-lined deerstalker in houndstooth tweed. Hard to find one to buy, but easy enough to make one.

@futurebird as others have said, a wool cloche can be very warm. There's even knitted versions. Knitted berets are also a good option, but if worn correctly don't do a lot for cold ears. Back in the mid 90s, scarves with hoods were a thing. Those should make a comeback.

@futurebird I wear my bowler hat to keep my heat warm. I think it matters that it is a good quality, not-constume hat good for summer and winter.
