@flux_the_cat Although I appreciated that KLK seemed to harken back to older anime styles, one thing about it compared to old is that character design got...a lot better...from 2010 onwards, barring NGE, so older anime often doesn't cut it

@drawthentic Actually, I completely forgot about it the first time I passed by this but Haven't You Heard I'm Sakamoto is a wonderful slice of life comedy. Sakamoto is a veritable force of nature and the plot basically follows the paths of people who stray to close to his maelstrom, get swung around by the effortless insanity he creates around him, and then get spat out having learned something from it.

@drawthentic My friends and I finished watching three seasons of "Aria the Animation", and it's not on Japan.It's on a terraformed, mostly water Mars, and instead of efficiencymaxing the people in the setting purposefully choose to "live slow".The city most of the show takes place in was consciously made to be a replica of Venice, but it's also 150 years since that was done so it has its own legends and myths.It's a very comfy show, though.I am not sure as to your taste, because the main characters are all women, but it's overwhelmingly wholesome.The main characters are training to become effectively journeymen and masters of a gondola guide guild that takes tourists on tours throughout Neo-Venezia, but they're called "undines" in reference to mythology. Masters are "Primas".When they get married, they usually retire.

Ika Musume!" or "Squid Girl" is great if you haven't already seen it."Isekai Ojisan" feels like it could be a slice of life at some parts, but it's mostly a gag comedy poking fun at Isekai tropes. He takes advantage of the shapeshifting power from the fantasy land to become a streamer reviewing old Sega console games while his nephew reacts to the various ways he fumbled interacting with the native humans of the other world, but I dunno if you'd enjoy that split from modern reality since that's what gets more focus.You've probably heard enough about that recent deer girl anime, and already formed an opinion on it, but I'll just bring it up in case you haven't.Hmm... yeah, sorry for the slim pickings. I tend to read more manga than I used to watch anime. Specifying something "modern" rules out the classics, and the old stuff that I can recall which remained niche probably doesn't fit in the "comfy" category to begin with. If it's something Action-Comedy I can probably rack my brain a bit more, but the modern setting is gonna put a lot of strain.
